What is Bourbon?

Unlike whiskeys, bourbon must contain 51% corn and be produced in the United States. In addition, the bourbon must be fermented in brand new charred and oak barrels—while whiskeys are fermented in oak barrels which are not necessarily new and/or carbonized. For a whisky to be considered as a bourbon, it must have been distilled with a maximum pressure of 160 proof, put in barrels at least 125 proof and bottled at least 80 proof—while other whiskeys are generally distilled with a maximum pressure of 190 proof. Finally, bourbon contains no flavors, colors or added spirits, and are aged a minimum of two years.

- Made in the USA - Contains 51% of corn
- Fermented in new oak and charred barrels
- Distilled at no more than 160 proof and placed in a barrel to less than 125 proof
- Contains no colors, flavors or other additives

Authentic Drinks

Given the bad intention of certain distillers back in the days—who used to alter, dilute and temper their whiskeys and bourbons—strict rules have emerged in the US in 1897. These rules allowed betters quality standards for whiskeys and bourbons produced and distributed throughout the United States. For example, the Bond Act requires That each bottle of whiskey or bourbon is bottled in a distillery supervised by the State government for at least four years.

So the United-States are now proud to offer authentic and high-quality spirit drinks. Forget the too expensive, strong and bad bourbons of the time. Today, bourbons—in addition, of being affordable—are delicious and are perfect to be enjoyed with a good cigar.
