How to Calculate Beard Growth Rate

How to Calculate Beard Growth Rate

Winter is Coming!

Time has come to say goodbye to your clean-shaven face and to your smooth cheeks folks—winter is coming! It's time for the razors to enter into hibernation and for you to start growing a fur. Clockwork, the beginning of each fall is the perfect time for men to start growing a beard. Obviously, with fall, comes temperature drops and naturally, the beard—no matter if it's a stubble, a short or long one—it will protect your face against the harsh climate. Since everyone is different and not everyone wants a beard of the same length, there is no exact time frame to start growing your beard. However, it's still a subjective matter that really deserves to be covered. Fortunately for us, there is a way that we can use to calculate the time we will need to get the beard length we want in time for the holidays. Here is the formula that you've always dreamed of. You'll now be able to know the exact time needed to achieve your beard's goal. But, of course, this is only suggestive and may vary.

A Mathematical evaluation

Generally speaking, facial hair and hair, grow at an average rate of 0.5 inches per month. To make it simple, we just have to divide this number (0.5) by 30.42 which is the average days in a month. Thus, per day, the hair growth is 0.016 inches. Obviously, this number is an ideal constant growth, and does not take into consideration the fact that in real life, our hairs are always slightly curly, underbrush and never fully straight. As facial hairs are never completely straight, we have to determine an apparent growth constant. To do so, we first noticed that—in general—a inch whisker do not really appear as an inch whisker. For a whisker to appear an inch long, it needs to have a length of an inch and a half. Thus said, by dividing the ideal constant growth by one and a half, we obtain a new constant of 0.011 inches per day. Let's call that value the apparent constant growth. With this value in mind, it is easy for us to determine the exact time that we'll need to reach our beard goal. We simply have to divide our desired length in inches by 0.011 and we obtain the exact number of days needed to grow the beard we want. For this winter.

Winter is coming. Man with beard

Here is the mathematical formula:

Beard goal length in inches (x) / 0.011 = Growth time in days

As an example, If I want a neat half inches beard for this Christmas, I'll have to divide 0.5 by 0.011. With this formula, I know that it will take 45 days before reaching my beard goal.

Although it may sound mathematical, it's pretty easy to determine the beard growth time. As the winter is fast coming it's time to determine when you'll start your growth project if it's not already done.
